It is terribly hard to get any services, and then you only get services for a limited time. And during that time, you have to repeatedly jump through hoops, And it doesn't matter if you missed a hoop because you were sick or you missed a hoop because you were in an auto accident or you missed a hoop that they forgot to tell you you had to jump through if you miss a hoop the money stops. And the first thing you have to prove is citizenship. The second thing is residency. And I don't remember what the other 47 things you have to prove are. But there's a lot of them. And it's not easy. And either this guy is totally ignorant, or he doesn't care about the truth. Or both.

@georgetakei It’s been 35 years since I had to get food stamps and I only got 3 months for the 3 kids and I. Required THREE appointments and each one requested yet other proofs.

The last appointment I had to show proof I was working 3 jobs and thus was excused from “community work” for extra 20 hour per week. The process has not changed: designed to make people give up and not complete it. Thus money is saved, right? NO ONE goes through the degrading treatment unless they really need it.

I think my state has a clause that if you get it for part of a year you can’t get it again for another 3 years.

I grew up dirt poor. I’m talking about sneakers that looked more like sandals, with my toes sticking out of them — type poor.

As a child, I remember how fearful and annoyingly frustrated everyone felt, wondering if we would be kicked off assistance because there were so many terms and conditions used to remove people in desperate need. It was sickening.

So this idea that they just take anyone who asks — for those who know the system and have experienced it — is insane.
