They tell these lies because they know that, by telling them from positions of authority, their base will assume they are true and repeat them. This is how propogandists manipulate the public. Not with a complex fabrication. With a simple lie a lot of other people eagerly want to believe is true, so it ends becoming a constant part of our social background noise. Before long, questioning it looks as foolish as questioning gravity.
@georgetakei And Fox & co just replay his lies over and over again so the sheep believe it. Even if they've gone through the process themselves, they'll believe the lies.
We need serious, unavoidable consequences for lies like this, both for the officials who say them, and the networks that keep broadcasting them.
